The reviews consistently portray The Stratford in San Mateo as an elegant, clean, and welcoming senior living community with a strong sense of belonging. Residents and visitors frequently praise the friendly, attentive, and professional staff, including management, nursing, dining, housekeeping, activities, and sales teams. Many residents describe feeling well cared for, supported, and socially connected, with activities, outings, concerts, meetings, and wellness programs helping prevent isolation.
The facility is repeatedly described as beautiful, well-maintained, secure, and thoughtfully designed, with attractive apartments, often larger than those in comparable communities, balconies, full kitchens, and in-unit laundry. Common amenities include an elegant dining room, lap pool, spa, gym, library, theater, game room, meeting spaces, guest rooms, parking, and transportation. Reviewers especially appreciate the quality of the food, the variety of activities, and the option to receive additional care, including assisted living and hospice services.
Its location across from Central Park and near shops, restaurants, banks, and transportation is considered excellent. Residents say the community remained functional and supportive during the COVID-19 pandemic, with capable leadership and competent medical staff.
Potential concerns are primarily financial and clinical. The condominium ownership model requires a substantial upfront purchase price plus monthly fees, making it unaffordable for some, despite praise for its value from residents. Some apartments, especially second bedrooms, are considered small. One reviewer noted that the community lacks memory care and on-site skilled nursing, while another observed fewer activities during COVID. Overall, Stratford receives overwhelmingly enthusiastic recommendations as a high-quality, active, and compassionate place to retire.
I honestly don't remember how a 55+ community got on my radar, but after living out of state for two years, and knowing the general area where I wanted to live, I found Meridian - within minutes of me expressing interest, the leasing manager (Regina), face timed me while touring the unit, because I was renting sight unseen - she put everything in motion and walked me through the process - considering the fact that I was 1200 miles away, both she and her team streamlined everything - since moving in 6 weeks ago, I have interacted with Regina, Admin, Front Desk, and Maintenance, all of whom treat me like I'm their only tenant - no clue how they do it, but it's so appreciated - I encounter dozens of residents throughout the day, and each time, I'm greeted by a smile, which tells me that we’re having the same experience - as I’ve told family and friends, living at Meridian is a blessing I didn't know I needed!
