Specific staff members, such as Becky, Denise, Stormie, Michelle, and Theresa, are frequently mentioned for their exceptional care and dedication. A few reviews mention unmet care needs, inadequate communication, and dissatisfaction with the handling of specific medical conditions. Our mom lived at SaraBella for 8 months. Staffing was a revolving door: at least 7 nurses, 5 activities directors, and a perpetual turnover among aides/med techs. We often encountered residents unattended; on many visits, our mother was sitting in wet and/or soiled clothing. Staff were often on phones: cell phone policy appeared unenforced. Nutrition/hygiene were troubling. Fruit was initially withheld from memory care; one staff member in the kitchen suggested we’d need an MD's note. "Fruit cost too much," he claimed. Expired baked goods from AL were routinely redistributed, and residents’ hands were not washed before/after meals. Lack of engagement with the residents was distressing. 3 times in 2026, aides failed to put a sheet over our mother’s plastic pad, causing her to slide out of bed; one night, she remained on the floor for hours, arm bleeding. Regularly, lights were left on, teeth went unbrushed, showers skipped. Our concerns were not adequately addressed by management.

Moved my husband into Memory Care in May 2024. Great place at that time. New management came in and the place slowly began to decline under management of the ED, Denise K. Five Directors of Nursing, 3 Memory Care Directors, 2 Activity Coordinators, and 2 Maintenance Directors, and countless care staff with longevity have quit between May 2024-October 2025. High staff turnover like that doesn’t occur for no reason. In October 2025, the ED wrote a letter to family members indicating the reason so many staff are leaving is due to the “unkindness” of family members to staff. Before you would ever consider this place please talk extensively to family members whose loved one is a resident and get a true picture of current operation. Don’t be mislead by a beautiful setting- you want to know how you’re loved one would be cared for. Also- please note that many positive reviews about Sarabella are written by the management staff. You want to know what FAMILIES think about the place.

Had to move my husband from this Memory Care facility. The Director of Nursing informed me that the med techs that pass meds are not allowed to assist residents with taking their meds. The resident must be able to take their own meds- the med techs simply bring the meds to the resident and they must self- administer. My husband has hand tremors from Parkinson’s making self-administration impossible. We were never told assisting with medication would be an issue when we first arrived at the facility. We came to find out that while Sarabella has a ECC license they don’t operate under it because they would need to have 24/7 nurses on staff which they won’t do because of “budget constraints.” The care staff get 1 hour of training before working with residents. Then they must complete some online training within the first 90 days. Many new hires quit before the end of 90 days so additional training doesn’t occur. Very high turnover. The staffing coverage is ALWAYS a problem.

The Executive Director and Nursing Director lack empathy. My Mom was suffering from shortness of breath when walking. I told the Nursing Director of my concerns and was told that Mom "needed to walk more." I asked the Bluestone Physician's CNA about Mom's blood oxygen being low at 93, she said it was fine. The Empath Nurse noticed my Mom's shortness of breath and brought it to the Nursing Director's attention. When I asked what was being done, I was told that it was being treated at a "low level" by her cardiologist. One week later, on New Year's Eve, I was on my way to visit Mom when I called her and she could not breathe at all. I had to call an ambulance. She ended up in the Emergency Room with pneumonia and extreme edema. No one at Sarabella noticed. She is now in Hospice Care at Sarabella and the Executive Director will not allow me to stay overnight in her apartment even though I have been FBI background checked multiple times as a Senior Center Volunteer and former teacher.

I can't say enough about Sarabella Senior Living. My Dad is & always has been very independent & active, he was still golfing 2x a week just last year, but then things started to change after he fell, then lost his lady friend, then fell again & we were so nervous to have him live alone. We had to figure something out since he wanted to continue to live alone but he lived in Hudson, FL, I live in Massachusetts & my brother in Missouri. My husband & I have a home in Punta Gorda but aren't there full time, my Uncle, my Dad’s brother, who’s 87, lives in Sarasota. I found out about Sarabella through Ryan at Assisted Living Locators (that's another raving review!!) & I was very impressed. My Uncle visited it the day after after I did & met with Esther & he really liked it, so we decided to bring my Dad so he could decide if he could envision living there. Thank goodness he really liked it, because our minds were pretty much made up. I had no idea what it entailed or cost & the people at Sarabella helped me with all of my questions. I had originally met with Brandie (who was informative & helpful without trying to sell me on anything) but Esther quickly became my go to (& she STILL IS!!). If I was/am a pain, she never lets on & is truly beyond amazing, even getting in touch with me on her day off. I am back in Massachusetts & have had to call a couple of times (help retrieving a message from my Dad’s cell phone etc.) & Dawn at the front desk is beyond wonderful. She is sweet & kind & caring & more than helpful whenever she helps me or my Dad. Natalie, the move in coordinator, was wonderful to get everything situated when Dad moved in. She is always so helpful when my Dad changes a button on the tv & can’t watch it or needs help with his telephone to call Ireland & is so much more available than just when he moved in. The nursing staff is so very helpful & kind & does way more than just give out meds. They take the time to talk with my Dad & answer any of his questions & helps with little things he may need help with. They never tell him they cant do something because they’re short staffed or too busy. Carol, the executive director, took time to meet with me to go over a few concerns & made a point of finding time that worked for me, even though she was extremely busy. There are quite a few activities that are available, art classes, bingo, movie nights & weekly outings. My Dad enjoys breakfast, lunch & dinner in the dining room & happy hour every day (2 beer/wine limit)! They have sitting areas in the front (rockers) & back (tables & chairs & benches) & my Dad enjoys both of them. He even told me that he was going to Publix with everyone. I love that my Dad has a beautiful brand new apartment with some really amazing people that I know we can count on to be there if we need them but more importantly I love that my Dad has started “living” again & the piece of mind that comes with that is priceless.

This was, by far, the best community for my mom in the area. It is clean, no odors, bright and roomy. The gardens and courtyard are gorgeous! The Executive Director and Director of Nursing are very active in the community and engages with residents and their families. We have had some great talks about their desire to always provide great care for the seniors living in the home. They have hired strong directors and each department is run efficiently and they are always welcoming and ready to assist as you need them to. We love them and their team. This has been a great move for my mom and one I am sure i will never regret when it was time to make this tough decision for her to live in assisted living.

December 2021

My Father & Mother had lived there for more than 4 months. The prices are high. Facility is ok as average. The service were very bad. The Executive Director was very rude & unprofessional to my folks. I had to relocate my folks back home to Washington. If you are looking for a place for your folks, please do not put them there.

Assisted Living · Memory Care · Independent Living · Nursing Home · Continuing Care Retirement Community

The mission of Sunnyside Village is to enrich the lives of residents, staff and the community by providing homes and facilities, services and programs in a Christian environment. The need for housing and health care for older persons was a concern of Will Overholt. As a result, he purchased property on Bahia Vista Street in Sarasota, Florida and built Sunnyside Rest Home. This 49-bed facility began operating in 1968 under the direction of the Sunnyside Beachy Amish Mennonite Church, the church Mr. Overholt attended. A voluntary service program of the church was the source of a large part of the staff at Sunnyside Rest Home. The room rates were the lowest in town. When Sunnyside Beachy Amish Mennonite Church was faced with the challenges of organizational and operational expansion, a group of local Mennonites assisted in the process. As a result, there was a change of ownership. An Acquisition Committee made up of persons from Sarasota area Mennonite churches met on September 23, 1976 to explore the idea of purchasing Sunnyside. Officials of the home office of the Mennonite church and the area conference, Southeast Mennonite Conference, were supportive. The Southeast Conference stressed that the operation be self-supporting. The Mennonite Church officials offered their resources but recommended that the ownership be kept on the local level. A corporation was formed, and the purchase papers were signed on August 1, 1977. The purchase was contingent on the ability of the group to obtain funds and a building permit to add 11 beds to the facility. This was accomplished, and work began on the addition. Planning for a retirement community continued over the next five years. Several options were evaluated and in the spring of 1983, Sunnyside Village began with six efficiency apartments. Since that time, Sunnyside Village has expanded to include 38 duplexes, 66 villas, 122 garden apartments, and a beautiful Lakeside Community Center.Sunnyside Village is located in beautiful Sarasota, Florida, making Sunnyside Village retirement community truly one of the most desirable retirement communities to live in the nation. The Glenridge On Palmer Ranch

7333 Scotland Way, Sarasota, FL, 34238
Assisted Living · Memory Care · Independent Living · Nursing Home · Continuing Care Retirement Community

As the nation’s only Life Fulfilling Community® (LFC), The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch was designed to commune with nature; provide challenging, engaging, member-driven programming; and create a therapeutic environment where social and cultural forces positively shape lives. The LFC philosophy and approach, which was pioneered by The Glenridge when it opened in 2003, is rooted in science – and it’s all about helping people live their best lives. According to Dr. Martin Seligman at the University of Pennsylvania, an innovator in the field of positive psychology, five elements must be present for individuals to flourish: Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Acceptance (PERMA, for short). These elements provide permanent building blocks for a life of profound fulfillment. At The Glenridge, we put PERMA into practice by incorporating it into all aspects of our culture. We call it “The Glenridge - See more at: http://www.theglenridge.com/about-us/life-fulfilling-community/#sthash.RiGcDeWi.dpuf Effect” – and we’ve seen it positively impact so many of our members who move here, find renewed purpose and “reinvent” their lives. Not only does this philosophy set us apart, it also makes others take notice. Case in point: Readers of Sarasota Magazine voted The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch “Best Retirement Community in Sarasota” for six straight years. But, this is the bottom line: Research shows that seniors who engage in ongoing social activities not only enjoy better brain health and emotional well-being, they also live longer, more fulfilled lives. At The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch, we see this truth every day. The concept is working! Discover how we can help you flourish, too. - See more at: http://www.theglenridge.com/about-us/life-fulfilling-community/#sthash.RiGcDeWi.dpuf…
