Average Rating

3.8 (130 reviews)

Founded in 1981, Sunrise Senior Living has offered assisted living, memory, respite, and skilled nursing care based on Dutch principles for the last 45 years. Founders Paul and Terry Klaassen were both influenced by their family experiences with caring for older adults which inspired them to pioneer a new approach to senior living. The couple established their first community in Virginia, growing to eventually offer a variety of services across the country. CEO Jack Callison holds over 15 years of senior living expertise and has led Sunrise to be certified as a Great Place to Work in 2023-2024.

Sunrise Senior Living customizes its approach to each resident's needs and preferences, and curates its Sunrise Live With Purpose™ programming to provide opportunities for all personalities and interests. From Live with Artistry classes to Live with Learning, Sunrise residents have the chance to pursue the subjects that have always intrigued them. Older adults are encouraged to bring their pets when they move into Sunrise communities, and most Sunrise communities have their own cat or dog whose companionship all residents can enjoy. Sunrise utilizes an electronic health record system that allows community caregivers, doctors, pharmacists, and therapists to coordinate care for residents. This technology can also send updates to family members about their loved one's health. Similarly forward-thinking are Sunrise's efforts towards energy efficiency. 30 Sunrise communities have been recognized by the EPA as ENERGY STAR certified in the senior facilities category. Sunrise continues to strengthen its dedication to environmental stewardship alongside its mission to "champion quality of life for all seniors."

Stay away from Bertram House! We moved my mother there 6 weeks ago on their memory care floor at the cost of $12,000 a month. Today we found out that she was not given her medications for THREE DAYS! She could have died. They said the prescriptions weren't delivered and no one called us to inform us of that problem. There was another incident when my mother was locked out of her room. DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! We are reporting them to the state of MA.

A trusted senior living community for 135 years, the not-for-profit Cambridge Homes features 44 independent and assisted living apartments and offers residents a wide variety of cultural, educational, wellness and social programs. The Cambridge Homes is located in an historic Georgian-style building on Mount Auburn Street just a mile from Harvard Square and adjacent to Mount Auburn Hospital. This gracious community is a good choice for individuals who wish to enjoy the many benefits of city living but who also desire security, personalized services and companionship. The residents of The Cambridge Homes enjoy its relaxed ambiance, stimulating programs and top quality services. They lead independent lives yet enjoy the advantages of living in a caring community where everyone’s voice is heard. The Cambridge Homes has a rich tradition of service to local seniors. The not-for-profit organization was established in 1887 by a group of Cambridge citizens (including Alice Longfellow, the poet’s daughter) to create a residence for elderly men and women. The first “Home” was quickly outgrown and in 1898 our current building was built. It was opened the following year in a ceremony presided over by Charles William Eliot, president of Harvard University. As time passed an infirmary was added, and in 1997 we reopened as an assisted living residence following a complete renovation which modernized our building while preserving its historic charm and original architectural details. Today, we continue to uphold the spirit of The Cambridge Homes’ founding through an active 9-member Board of Directors and 50 Incorporators who are committed to providing a gracious home and top quality services to local seniors. In a continuation of the community’s original charitable purpose, The Cambridge Homes also maintains an endowment fund that is available to residents who need some financial assistance. The Active Friends’ Committee hosts programs including play-reading, monthly teas, and wine and cheese socials which create opportunities for residents to stay connected to the larger Cambridge community.…
