The reviews for independent living facilities in Charlottesville, particularly The Barclay and Anthology of Charlottesville, present a mix of positive and negative experiences. The Barclay is praised for its upscale environment, knowledgeable staff, and a home-like atmosphere, with specific commendations for staff members like Elizabeth and Samone. However, the executive director, Steve, is noted as unresponsive. Anthology of Charlottesville receives varied feedback. Many reviewers appreciate its modern, clean facilities, extensive amenities, and friendly staff. The dining experience is highlighted for its flexibility and quality, with meals available throughout the day. Activities and social events are well-received, contributing to a vibrant community atmosphere. However, some reviews express dissatisfaction with management's responsiveness, maintenance issues, and inconsistencies in service quality. Concerns include inadequate cleaning services, poor dining room service, and communication challenges with staff. The facility's location and cost are also mentioned as potential drawbacks. Overall, while both facilities have their strengths, such as dedicated staff and appealing amenities, there are notable areas for improvement, particularly in management responsiveness and service consistency.

My sister -in-law moved in and middle of winter storms. Sales staff Olivia has been amazing to work with. She has helped coordinate all the details large and small. (In middle of ice storm). All staff has be so welcoming. My sister-in-law loves all the activities, the food is wonderful, the bistro is an added bonus in case you want to go grab something for a late breakfast or early lunch. Happy hour is amazing with music , finger foods and drinks. She said if you go hungry around there, it has to be your own fault cause the food is amazing and there’s food at every event. She has made so many new friends and when you walk in if there’s a staff that approaches them, they know their name. I walked in one time and a staff member was helping her find a book in the library. You will not find a more caring beautiful place. It’s clean and the housekeeping/maintence have been on top of things. Come set in the lobby for 30 min it will be an easy decision

My grandmother moved in a few months ago, and it's been like night and day! She lived alone before this and wasn't able to get out much aside from when we visited but every time I've spoken to her over the phone she's told me all about getting to know her neighbors and how nice all of the staff are. I haven't gotten the chance to visit her yet but she's said the food was very good and that the serving staff were really kind.

This place is the worse I have seen yet. You are lied to from the moment you read the sign that says The Barclay and then notice it is a painted vinyl sign wrapped over the original sign which is for Anthology which given the internet reviews for it would make most people turn around and leave. But if you stay long enough you will hear the staff lie about how great the place is, that is because they are comparing it to how bad Anthology was. The Barclay lived up to or down to everything Anthology was and more. My Dad spent 10 days here at $900/day for rent and care. We still had to care for him ourselves and hire Brightstar to when we couldn't. He moved out 10 days after moving in. The Barclay was given notice 5 days after we moved in, they quarantined my Dad for the last 5 days after receiving notice. I doubt he even ate the same food as the rest of the residents since he couldn't eat in the dinning room. They asked for almost 8K for April rent and crappy care.
