What families are saying

We’ve gathered and summarized real family reviews from across the internet for you. Contact a CareScout representative for details.

The reviews for this nursing home are overwhelmingly negative, highlighting significant concerns about staff behavior, communication, and resident care. Many reviewers express dissatisfaction with the staff, noting that they are rude, unresponsive, and do not speak English, which complicates communication. There are serious allegations of neglect, with one reviewer mentioning that their family member, who is experiencing kidney failure, is left to deteriorate without proper care. Another reviewer criticizes the facility for automatically assigning a 100-day stay, seemingly linked to insurance coverage, and only releasing their mother-in-law after persistent questioning about her progress. A major issue raised is the disappearance of a resident's 74-year-old wedding ring. The facility allegedly failed to document the ring's transfer to the resident's husband, leading to its loss. The staff reportedly provided excuses and denied responsibility, with the social worker even denying knowledge of the complainant. This incident highlights a lack of accountability and inadequate policies for handling residents' personal belongings. Additionally, a former employee describes the workplace environment as hostile, with unsupportive kitchen staff and a lack of empathy during a medical emergency. Despite these criticisms, one review does acknowledge the facility's skilled staff and exceptional physical therapy department, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation in a skilled nursing facility. Overall, the reviews paint a picture of a facility with serious issues in staff conduct, resident care, and management, with only a few positive remarks about the therapy services offered.

Sunrise Retirement Community

5501 Gordon Drive East, Sioux City, IA, 51106
Assisted Living · Memory Care · Independent Living · Nursing Home · Continuing Care Retirement Community

& Sunlight Memory Care Centers Medical and memory care needs of Sunrise residents have changed since we introduced the Bernstein and Sunlight Centers 25 years ago. To serve faithfully into the future, we must change, too. We owe residents more. Bernstein and Sunlight have aging and inefficient ventilation systems, small resident rooms, and inadequate restrooms that lack privacy. While other components of the Sunrise continuum set the standard for senior care, these facilities are no longer “best in class” in the field. We can’t delay. Connecting memory care residents with the beautiful chapel, indoor park, and other amenities in the now-new Sunrise Health Center will enrich their experiences and ensure an edge in a competitive senior market. There is no better way to round out our services to seniors, but the longer we wait, the older our other facilities become. We have to do better. Especially when there are wheelchairs involved, small bathrooms provide tight quarters for caregivers to assist residents—and that’s far from ideal. By creating more spacious restrooms, we’ll provide for the safety of our staff and the dignity of our elders. We’ll also secure the very latest in ADA compliance. We must dream bigger. Since 1959, we’ve welcomed more than 6,000 residents to the Sunrise campus. This new and exciting trajectory allows us to serve seniors with chronic confusion alongside those with different medical conditions. This means couples could stay together when one of them is memory impaired and the other is not. Will you help us? Your gift will support far more than construction costs. It will secure our future…and your future, too…as we embrace life’s changes and invest in what really matters. Call 712.276.3821, Ext: 0 for Hallie Salmen, executive director, or Lorrie Stedman, director of fund development Pledge Form Brochure Sunrise is Siouxland’s only community based, not-for-profit retirement governed by a local volunteer board of directors. Sunrise has been leading the way in senior care for over 50 years.…
