About The Quadrangle

The Quadrangle is an Assisted Living community in the Haverford area that also offers Memory Care, Independent Living, Nursing Home, and Continuing Care Retirement Community care. Costs for this community start at $3,571/mo, which is lower than the cost of care in the Haverford area of $5,685/mo.

We’re welcoming brighter days as our residents have the chance to enjoy group activities, communal dining, social events, and indoor visitation, subject to community operating status. A Haverford, Pennsylvania, continuing care retirement community (CCRC), providing independent living for active older adults, as well as personal care, memory care, and rehabilitation services Founded by retired Quaker professors in 1986, our community offers a distinctly inclusive, intellectual, and highly engaged environment Offering a variety of 1-2 bedroom apartment styles, along with eight residential buildings, skilled nursing and personal care facilities, and numerous residential cottages Featuring 85 resident-run committees, a vibrant activities program that includes an emphasis on fitness and personal training, and a multitude of art, literature, science/health, and cultural opportunities with a focus on the mind, body, and spirit.

The Quadrangle, which is located on 74 wooded acres, just nine miles from Philadelphia’s City Hall, was founded by a group of Haverford College professors who were looking for a new approach to retirement homes. By creating a place where older adults could live securely, share their interests, and enjoy one another’s company, they felt they had created a new kind of community that had the feel of a college campus, with an emphasis on creativity and continued learning. When you enter our lovely community, the first thing you will notice is the beautiful art that lines the walls throughout the hallways. Many of this is resident-created art, and you will sense immediately that there is a focus on fine arts, pottery, and sculpting (much of this work is created in our popular art studio).

Our residents are highly involved in the curation of our committees and programming and have even adopted "the life of the mind" as our community's motto, as so much at The Quadrangle revolves around providing enriching, fulfilling experiences. And, to ensure the community is consistently meeting residents' needs, we are proud to boast an active and involved Resident's Association with a ten member council and four officers who meet with the resident body monthly to consider community needs and concerns—allowing ample opportunity for involvement in the life and governance of The Quadrangle. The library, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is at the heart of our building, and we are proud to offer more than 10,000 volumes. Our resident committee purchases 30-50 new books each month and we offer two bookcases of work written by our resident authors. We offer an excellent dining program, and our in-house chef offers a fully inclusive meal program. Our property features a 6-hole executive golf course and putting green, bocce, tennis courts, croquet, community garden plots, and a greenhouse. The Quadrangle is truly like no other senior living community, and we would be honored to welcome you and your family for a tour of our buildings and our grounds. You will notice immediately that our residents are friendly and approachable, and—if you wish—you will have the opportunity to meet many of the people who make our community so vibrant and talk to them about life at The Quadrangle. About Sunrise Senior Living

Sunrise Senior Living logo

Average Rating

3.8 (130 reviews)

Founded in 1981, Sunrise Senior Living has offered assisted living, memory, respite, and skilled nursing care based on Dutch principles for the last 45 years. Founders Paul and Terry Klaassen were both influenced by their family experiences with caring for older adults which inspired them to pioneer a new approach to senior living. The couple established their first community in Virginia, growing to eventually offer a variety of services across the country. CEO Jack Callison holds over 15 years of senior living expertise and has led Sunrise to be certified as a Great Place to Work in 2023-2024.

Sunrise Senior Living customizes its approach to each resident's needs and preferences, and curates its Sunrise Live With Purpose™ programming to provide opportunities for all personalities and interests. From Live with Artistry classes to Live with Learning, Sunrise residents have the chance to pursue the subjects that have always intrigued them. Older adults are encouraged to bring their pets when they move into Sunrise communities, and most Sunrise communities have their own cat or dog whose companionship all residents can enjoy. Sunrise utilizes an electronic health record system that allows community caregivers, doctors, pharmacists, and therapists to coordinate care for residents. This technology can also send updates to family members about their loved one's health. Similarly forward-thinking are Sunrise's efforts towards energy efficiency. 30 Sunrise communities have been recognized by the EPA as ENERGY STAR certified in the senior facilities category. Sunrise continues to strengthen its dedication to environmental stewardship alongside its mission to "champion quality of life for all seniors."

What families are saying

We’ve gathered and summarized real family reviews from across the internet for you. Contact a CareScout representative for details.

The Quadrangle is a senior living community with a mix of positive and negative reviews. Many residents and their families praise the community for its beautiful grounds, diverse and intellectually stimulating activities, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The residents are described as friendly, well-educated, and engaged, contributing to a vibrant community life. The staff is often commended for being caring, attentive, and dedicated, with special mentions of excellent physical and occupational therapy services. However, there are significant criticisms, particularly regarding the quality of food and dining services, which some find inconsistent and understaffed. The memory care and administrative responsiveness have also been criticized, with reports of disengaged staff and poor communication. Some reviews highlight serious concerns about healthcare services, citing neglect and inadequate medical attention leading to severe health issues for some residents. The facility itself is generally appreciated for its amenities and recent renovations, although some find the decor outdated. The transition to new management under Sunrise has been met with mixed reactions, with some residents feeling their needs are overlooked in favor of attracting new residents. Overall, while many find the Quadrangle a fulfilling place to live, others have had negative experiences, particularly in healthcare and dining services.

History Presby’s Inspired Life grew out of a response by members of the Presbytery of Philadelphia to provide quality housing and long-term care for older adults in the greater Philadelphia region. In 1955, the community that would later be known as Rosemont was opened to offer housing for 14 older adults who needed to be relocated after their previous residence closed. That community was the first of what is now Presby’s Inspired Life, and that initial act of charity spawned a ministry that continues to enrich an increasing number of lives. Nurturing the body, mind and spirit is our priority throughout our Life Plan communities, where we offer independent living, personal care, skilled nursing care, short- and long-term rehabilitative care and memory support programs. Our broad range of cultural, educational, spiritual and dining programs create limitless opportunities for residents to stay active and engaged while enjoying the peace of mind that comes from knowing that additional care is available if needed. Our communities are among the most respected in the Philadelphia region. In our Affordable Housing ministry, our more than 30-year partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development—as well as our long-term affiliation with the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency—has created opportunities for residents to live an enhanced quality of life that they may otherwise not have known in safe, affordable and beautiful apartment homes. What’s more is that our reputation for excellence in sponsorship, development and management remains the catalyst for other affordable housing developers to seek our expertise in managing their sites, resulting in several new referrals each year. In all of its roles, Presby’s Inspired Life’s values-based commitment to our residents remains constant and primary. Our goal is to create environments that bring engagement and possibility to the lives of all those we serve.…
