What families are saying

We’ve gathered and summarized real family reviews from across the internet for you. Contact a CareScout representative for details.

Reviews of Benton House of Sugar Hill are mixed, with many positive comments alongside serious complaints. Numerous families praise the facility’s smaller, home-like design, cleanliness, attractive setting, one-floor layout, activities, and friendly atmosphere. Many report that staff members are caring, responsive, compassionate, and attentive, particularly executive directors, nurses, med-techs, activities staff, and front-office personnel. Residents are often described as happy, safe, engaged, and well cared for, with families appreciating communication and support during difficult transitions. Several reviewers specifically praise memory-care services, respite stays, day programs, and the community’s ability to help residents feel at home. However, multiple reviewers describe significant concerns about staffing, turnover, training, and management responsiveness. Complaints include aides using phones, ignoring residents, sleeping while on duty, poor supervision, unanswered call buttons, inadequate assistance with bathing and transfers, and multiple falls. One family reported that a resident with dementia experienced repeated falls and felt mistreated shortly after moving in. Other reviews allege inaccurate communication after a serious fall, possible mishandling of an injury, and refusal to readmit a resident after rehabilitation. Food quality and service are recurring concerns, including small portions, delayed or cold meals, inconsistent preparation, and limited menu satisfaction. Some families also report billing disputes, continued charges during hospitalization or rehabilitation, collection-agency referrals, and substantial financial losses when residents could not return. Overall, reviewers frequently value the facility’s environment and individual caregivers, but experiences vary considerably. Prospective families are advised to examine contracts carefully, clarify care capabilities and readmission policies, verify staffing and fall-response procedures, and remain actively involved in their loved one’s care.

February 2025

My mom moved in to Cardinal Point when it was just built in 2006 and totally enjoyed living there for 11 years. I am so grateful that she developed many friendships there and had a great life after my dad passed. I highly recommend Cardinal Point as the food is very delicious, it is decorated beautifully, very clean and has lots of activities. The water views are amazing! Even today, after several years, I go to sleep thinking how grateful I am that my mom lived there and had a wonderful life in such a beautiful place!
