"I would highly recommend Sunrise San Mateo as an assisted living facility for anyone looking for a place for their loved one. I am so grateful to have found Sunrise of San Mateo for my mother. Everyone has been so kind and helpful throughout this transition period and the professionalism of the staff is commendable. The environment is clean, comfortable and full of planned activities happening often. The care managers provided excellent care, quickly responding to any questions or concerns we have. In addition, the nurses make sure to keep us informed of even the slightest changes with my mom and always take our wishes into consideration." - Jessica…

"I have been very impressed with the Magnolia Retirement and Assisted Living Center. My mother has lived there for four years and is very happy. The food is excellent, the employees are caring, and there are lots of interesting speakers and outings. Best of all, the other people who live there are, in general, quite active and engaging. The holiday party in December is amazing, and the celebrations throughout the year are festive. One of Magnolia's executives is one our favorites: caring, professional, and very pleasant. When my mother needed more help, she really didn't want to leave her house of 40+ years, but she enjoys her life at Magnolia, especially the built-in community of friends, the many activities, and the fact that she doesn't have to deal with the hassles of home ownership. I couldn't recommend the Magnolia more." - Soufyane…

"On the outside, this facility presents well. On the inside, my loved one was not well cared for. Examples: a "med tech" came to take a wellness check, however the blood pressure cuff didn't work, he brought back a second one which also didn't work, and left to get a third one! Another example; at 3 am my partner had pain; he pressed the button and asked for pain meds; the attendant came in 10 minutes and my partner asked for pain med only to be followed by a "med tech" arriving 10 minutes later to ask (again) about the problem; my partner asked AGAIN for pain med, TWO HOURS later, the med tech brought the pain med! This is inexcusable and incompetence. The facility has some nice staff, but others are untrained and clueless. The restaurant has limited food; and if one is there at "off-hours," one is not treated well, even though the rules say food is available at any time. Staffing is mixed with some nice and others being regimented and letting one know there are "rules."." - Helen…

"My wife spent the last year of her life living at this modern, super clean, purpose built community. This is the main one of several managed personally by Maria Freitas. Dayton Care Home was created from a simple belief: care for seniors should feel personal, not institutional. As a family-owned and operated home, our journey into senior care wasn’t just business—it was personal. Like many families, we experienced firsthand how challenging it can be to find the right care for a loved one. We saw the gaps in larger facilities and the need for something more intimate, more attentive, and more human. That experience led us to create Dayton Care Home—a place where seniors can receive high-quality care while still feeling the comfort of home. Why Dayton Home Care? With over 35 years of combined experience and as licensed RCFE administrators, we opened Dayton Home Care in 2022 with a clear purpose, to create a more intimate, home-centered alternative to traditional senior living. Our 6-bed home allows us to focus on what matters most: - Truly personalized care - Consistent, familiar caregivers - A calm, comfortable environment - Meaningful relationships with every resident A Home in Every Sense At Dayton Home Care, we’ve created a space that feels warm, open, and peaceful. Our home is filled with natural light and includes a backyard where residents can enjoy fresh air and quiet moments. Daily life is centered around comfort and connection—from morning movement and gardening to games, conversation, movie nights, and meals made with care. Families often tell us the same thing when they visit: “This feels like a real home.”…

The figures below show the average monthly starting costs for assisted living of nearby cities. Keep in mind that these figures are an average, and that the numbers used to calculate it spanned a wide range. In fact, CareScout data suggests that most families will underestimate their monthly budget by almost 20%, meaning that once inclusions and services are factored in, they can actually afford more than they originally thought.
