Manor at Market Square receives largely positive reviews for its friendly, compassionate staff, spacious apartments, affordability, and range of services. Residents and families frequently describe the community as clean, comfortable, secure, and welcoming, with rooms that include kitchenettes, ample storage, accessible bathrooms, and space for personal furnishings. Many appreciate the ability to transition from independent living to personal care or hospice without moving apartments.
Staff members are repeatedly praised for going above and beyond. Reviewers cite attentive wellness checks, help with laundry, medication coordination, hospice transitions, transportation to medical appointments, and personalized support for residents with dementia or disabilities. Families also value the staff’s kindness, communication, willingness to accommodate special needs, and efforts to encourage participation in activities. Several reviewers mention that employees learned sign language or provided extra assistance to residents with hearing or mobility challenges.
Amenities and activities include dining services, housekeeping, transportation, entertainment, bingo, exercise, crafts, shopping trips, religious services, a salon, library, outdoor areas, and social events. Food reviews are mixed: some residents enjoy the meals and generous portions, while others report bland, cold, or declining-quality food and inconsistent alternatives.
Negative feedback includes occasional communication difficulties, unanswered calls, delayed assistance, medication concerns, missing belongings, staffing shortages, and limited resident engagement. Some reviewers also criticize the downtown Reading location, parking, surrounding neighborhood, and perceived lack of outdoor walking space. A few describe the facility as dirty or poorly managed, although many others specifically praise its cleanliness.
Overall, Manor is viewed as an affordable, well-equipped, caring community, particularly suitable for families seeking flexible levels of care, though experiences with staffing, communication, food, and management can vary.
My loved one has been in the memory care facility for the past 2 weeks. During that time we have witnessed soiled residents walking around, lack of staff to respond to needs of residents, staff that was there telling us there are only 2 people working on that floor because others called out. (There are around 20-30 residents on that floor) We have been asked numerous times by visitors if we could help them with their loved one from helping get their clothes on to finding their loved one that wasn’t in their room and they couldn’t find him or anyone to help. The last time I was there an elderly lady was yelling for help because a man had wondered into her room. The list goes on.
Along with that they told us our loved one would be checked on every 30 minutes. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN.
There is much more but they limit the space. Needless my loved on is going to be moved to a different facility.
La Vida Real has a warm and welcoming feel. From the staff and other residents out and about at activities. There is something for everyone!
La Vida Real is not a luxury facility. It’s sold as luxury but it has horrible management, poorly trained caregivers with good ones leaving from overwork w/ short staffing. The food is horrible to the point I have to provide my parent with all their meals. Friends with family on the independent side have asked if the rumors are true about how poorly run the assisted side is - yes it’s true. We have caregivers that take 1 to 1-1/2 hours to answer the call buttons, a nurse who forgets to give insulin, another nurse left my parent to fend for themselves in the bathroom during a facility wide stomach flu so I had to come find them & clean them up (she had to take her lunch & didn’t call for help) & now I’m being charged for an add’l mystery “light assisted” fee at $800/mth. I do all the laundry since the caregivers don’t do it because they “forget”, I bathe my parent because no one ever has & my parent won’t leave their room I’m not sure what additional service I’m paying for.
