Average Rating

3.8 (130 reviews)

Founded in 1981, Sunrise Senior Living has offered assisted living, memory, respite, and skilled nursing care based on Dutch principles for the last 45 years. Founders Paul and Terry Klaassen were both influenced by their family experiences with caring for older adults which inspired them to pioneer a new approach to senior living. The couple established their first community in Virginia, growing to eventually offer a variety of services across the country. CEO Jack Callison holds over 15 years of senior living expertise and has led Sunrise to be certified as a Great Place to Work in 2023-2024.

Sunrise Senior Living customizes its approach to each resident's needs and preferences, and curates its Sunrise Live With Purpose™ programming to provide opportunities for all personalities and interests. From Live with Artistry classes to Live with Learning, Sunrise residents have the chance to pursue the subjects that have always intrigued them. Older adults are encouraged to bring their pets when they move into Sunrise communities, and most Sunrise communities have their own cat or dog whose companionship all residents can enjoy. Sunrise utilizes an electronic health record system that allows community caregivers, doctors, pharmacists, and therapists to coordinate care for residents. This technology can also send updates to family members about their loved one's health. Similarly forward-thinking are Sunrise's efforts towards energy efficiency. 30 Sunrise communities have been recognized by the EPA as ENERGY STAR certified in the senior facilities category. Sunrise continues to strengthen its dedication to environmental stewardship alongside its mission to "champion quality of life for all seniors."

Sunrise of Leominster receives generally positive reviews for its assisted living and memory care services, with many praising the compassionate and attentive staff. Families appreciate the quick and efficient admission process, especially in urgent situations, and commend the facility for its warm, home-like atmosphere. The staff, from caregivers to the executive director, are often described as friendly, knowledgeable, and empathetic, making residents and their families feel like part of a community. The facility is noted for its cleanliness, well-maintained environment, and engaging activities that keep residents active and involved. However, some reviews highlight concerns about communication, particularly between management and families, and the responsiveness to messages. There are also mentions of high costs, with some families feeling the pricing is steep, especially when additional services are required. A few reviews express dissatisfaction with the management's handling of specific requests and the availability of transportation services. Despite these concerns, many families express satisfaction with the care provided, noting that their loved ones are happy and well-cared for. The facility's location and amenities, such as spacious rooms and a variety of activities, are also appreciated. Overall, Sunrise of Leominster is recommended for its quality care and supportive environment, though potential residents and families are advised to consider the cost and communication aspects.

December 2022

I don't think that last review is fair. My dad has been there for a few months and the team is good and caring.

Ruth

October 2022

My parents have been there for 2.5 years. The staff that takes care of my parents seem fine, my parents haven't had a lot of complaints about them. However, the management is terrible. They are extremely unresponsive to messages, and will turn a simple request into months-long drama that most often results in them saying "no" to whatever you ask for. The maintenance guy has been rude since day one. I've told the executive director how disappointed I was in how something was handled and he completely ignored it. The van is very rarely available. The communication between staff members is poor, and like I mentioned their communication with family is lacking, too. I wish I had chosen a different place for my parents.
