"We were looking for a nice care providing assistant living for my friend and client at the time. The people there were very personable, nice and generally happy. They offered a lot of information and gave a tour. It’s an extremely nice facility! The biggest and most impressive 2 things I think I liked about them was…. There was no bad smells! "During a recent visit to Orchards Assisted Living, I was looking for a suitable place for my mom among five options. While Orchards looked visually appealing, it was extremely noisy, similar to a construction site. Loud gossip, laughter,and constant phone usage by employees was evident. The doors were also incredibly loud and seemed to be in disrepair. I observed an elderly lady who apparently works in the kitchen yelling at one of the employees.  That was shocking and absolutely unprofessional. While waiting, I spoke to a resident waiting for help.  She informed me that this behavior is commonplace, and the staff turnover rate is very high. She stated that complaints are ignored, and no one appears to be in charge. Apparently the Directors absolve themselves of responsibility. "When I moved my LO into Settler's Park they were the only Senior Living Community in Baker City with availability. There was a reason why they had empty rooms. Communication was great until you paid the deposit. There is a charge ($750/month) for all diabetics at the facility. Upon move-in prescription medications were misordered. The facility arranged for the medications to be sent back, but did not inventory or track the returns. Insurance was still billed. Then at the 30-day assessment the care level was increased without written communication from the facility. Even after I ask if the re-evaluation had been completed and was told they would let me know as soon as it was." - Amy… Read more

"I love this facility. The staff is extremely kind to the residents and their needs are not ignored. They are caring and encourage activity. The communication with family is top-notch. My Father has been here for over 2 years and during this time he needed one of his legs amputated. With this big change they still were able to accommodate his needs. "Whitewood Gardens was a fabulous place for Momma to stay this last year. They are so very caring and understanding. They treated Momma with the utmost respect and took care of her every need with a loving smile. The food was always good, healthy and very tasty. The place is clean, comfortable looking, and almost always filled with soft music. Their exercise programs and afternoon activities are always fun and attended by whichever residents chose to use them that day. They celebrate all the major holidays and some of the minor ones. There are not bad odors in the air, no matter when you into the building or a room. It also doesn't smell of antiseptics. It just smells clean. "For financial reasons, we had to move mom to a new memory care facility...that's when we found Marjorie House memory care! From the moment we walked in, we knew this place & its staff were extra special. The administrator gave us the 'tour' & explained how everything is intentional....designed for safety as well as to help those suffering with memory impairment. We only wish we had found this place sooner! As far as the staff, the nurse always advises us of any changes in moms behavior and/or meds. Office staff reminds us of upcoming parties, support group meetings, and handles moms petty cash for haircuts, etc. The administrator that oversees the facility & staff is always willing to listen, advise us, and even goes to bat for us in any way she can. It's not unusual to see them hanging out with the residents on any given day. Also, all the aides are very engaging, attentive & appear to love what they do.
