Ashley the director will help you in all ways. When your loved one first arrives there is a very loving staff and that staff stays loving. What a Gem Lexington is and a great help to the Ventura community. Ashley should be awarded for concern and patience with the residents and their family. "My husband and I have lived here for 18 months and are very happy. The grounds are beautiful and pleasant for walking. The staff are all helpful and friendly and listen to any concerns we have. I especially appreciate that they are aware of each resident's situation and will do wellness checks if we are concerned about someone we haven't seen for a few days. The food is very good and management listens to any requests we have about the menu, many of which have been accommodated. Our activities director is amazing. There are games, crafts, entertainment and exercise classes for all who are interested. We have made many new friends here and look forward to greeting new arrivals. All of this at a more reasonable cost than any other facility we visited." - Trudie…

"If you’re looking for a retirement facility that is hotel-like, with upscale common areas, above average food, lots of activities, and you are independent, then Oakmont of Camarillo is for you. If you need assistance, think twice. When we moved dad into the assisted living side of the facility (they also have a memory care wing) in March of 2021 we were assured of getting additional services like assistance with toileting, escorts/reminders to go to meals, etc. We paid the additional fees for these but staffing fell short and he got maybe half of what we requested. The entire management team (both administration and medical) left the facility in Summer and were replaced with interim staff, and then finally permanent replacements recently, but by then you could notice serious gaps in service like caregivers, housekeeping, etc. We moved dad out this week to a memory care facility that could better care for his needs; his dementia had worsened, and we were so disappointed in staffing and lack of communication from administration that we didn’t choose Oakmont’s memory care wing, rather another community entirely. During the last week there we had asked for showering assistance for him, but after waiting 4 days for them to do it, and it never happening, we gave up and just waited until he got to his new community. Our lesson here has been: when looking at facilities, don’t be swayed by aesthetics like fancy furniture, vaulted ceilings and fireplaces; the care is more important and it’s a good thing to see lots of caregiver staff roaming around." - William…
