"Beware of this facility. We have had so many issues with this facility and the care of our loved one, that we have moved out as quickly as we could!! If you see carpet and cloth covered chairs - just know that you will sit in feces and urine often and will always smell it! When you have people who do not have the personal care of themselves in charge of your loved one, you will see a low level of care that you will never have experienced before. When you ask about the state of your loved one, you will always be told that when you weren't there that day, they were much better!! I came everyday as I didnt trust them and even that didn't help!! Most places we saw looked nice and seemed to have good care, but when we went to Sunrise of Cary, we immediately noticed a higher overall standard. The building is wonderfully decorated and puts us at ease when we enter the lobby. The rooms are well-designed and spacious and capture a lot of natural light (very cheery). The people living there looked happy and were joking around with the staff. Several activities took place when we visited, and the gym was full of people doing exercises. When you meet the activities leader and the therapy manager, you can tell they are pros. "Waltonwood lake Boone is a perfectly nice place with friendly and committed staff. But, for the price the independent living side is not competitive. This is due to the national management policies. There really isn’t transportation. Food quality is inconsistent, not very nutritious, and very limited options especially for people who don’t eat meat. Very limited trips to local venues like theatre, lectures, music, museums. And since only one small bus, can’t take all who want to go. No pool, and no transportation to nearby pool that is recommended. House keeping is only every other week. There is not a linen service. "My mom moved in the the assisted living facility when it opened in June 2025. Her room and the overall accommodations are very nice. The direct care staff are friendly and provide excellent care. Food is also very good. Our biggest problem as been multiple price increases including a level of care re-assessment after 30 days which increased monthly cost by nearly $2000. This was after a thorough assessment prior to moving in. In addition, the facility has increased my mom's rates on both level of care and base rate after the new year, resulting in an additional $2000/mo. I understand costs associated with caring for our loved ones, but had we known that our "rent" would increase by $4000/ mo in just 6 months, we would have certainly looked at alternative options. "My mom was in this facility and is now moving out due to the complete lack of care provided, especially considering the cost. For over $6,000 a month, you would expect a certain standard of service they claim to provide—but that could not be further from reality. My mom entered with dementia that was still mild; she was independent and did not need memory care. We paid for a room, cleaning service, and medication dispensing. Yet her room was consistently dark, dingy, and NEVER cleaned. The entire facility often smelled of urine. After repeated complaints about the filth, nothing changed—I eventually bought my own supplies and cleaned her room and bathroom myself. Even worse, as my mom’s dementia progressed, the staff NEVER communicated with us about her episodes or what was happening. How can a facility responsible for people’s loved ones fail to notify families about their care and wellbeing? "Don’t send your love one here there’s no staffing no med techs any staff is passing out medication that’s not certified most of the staff are on drugs . Residents are not getting showers or ADL’s there’s no activity for the residents. There’s no facility nurse the food is horrible and they don’t get healthy snacks if snacks at all . The facility has roaches in resident rooms and beds . Third shift leaves in the middle of there shift and there’s not a med tech most of the nights most of the residents have falls on third shift because of staff is on drugs or sleeping on duty. They hire anyone off the streets.The residents clothes are being stolen and they don’t wash the residents clothes with proper sanitation detergent .
