Like all establishments this staffed by lazy, indifferent workers. Turn over is often and can be confusing to residents. Could low wages be a problem. While visiting a friend at the Lodge, there was no one available to ask the location of my friend. The two staff members at the "desk" acted as if I was disturbing their day. Very surly attitude. No hellos or can I help you. Indifference! It's a pretty face much like a Hollywood set but does not live up to their promises in the brochure. The high cost of an animal is extremely high at a one time $750.00. This is confusing as studies have shown that animal ownership is most beneficial to seniors. "I can't say enough great things about South Haven. I had to move my father from Chicago due to his severe dementia and into Skilled Nursing. I looked around and yes, there are places are that much "prettier", but their services and care are AWFUL! I did A LOT of research and chose South Haven. I am 100% positive I made the perfect choice. The staff was so wonderful and caring, from the nurses, the CNA's, housekeeping and everyone in administration. I was there daily and I would watch staff members who were not required to work with a certain patient and take the time to stop and them, feed them or just giving a loving hug. The housekeeping staff helped me when my Dad was falling out of bed while the nurse was on their way. My Dad was no picnic to deal with, he had the mean dementia, but they treated him with such care and respect. They also treated me and my family like family as well. He lost the ability to feed himself and the staff would not assist. I was actively looking for placement elsewhere and was assured that he would be fed until I could find another facility. The staff did not feed him and instead neglected him. I made a surprise visit and found the staff placing my husband in his room, alone and without food, because he kept getting out of his chair.
