"I was a patient at the facility for about 6 weeks and I must say I found conditions deplorable. This is an institution that has a 194 bed capacity yet during the time I spent they ran out of bed linen on a regular basis so much so that on several occasions Iwas unable to lay down because they couldn't make the bed. Additionally they also even more frequently ran out of towels and washcloths and at the best of times they were rationed. There were other items of basic care that were lacking especially larger size adult diapers and a deficit of cleansing wipes which was an additional problems with the lack of washcloths etc. Patient care was haphazard. If you rang the call bell it might be answered in a few minutes or two hours later, even if answered within a reasonable time their might still be a substantial time for your request to be honoured whether it was as simple as a glass oh water or as important as pain medication or to cleaned up after a bowel movement. "This place is amazing. They took such good care of my Mothers needs and wants from the day she entered the facility to the day she passed. The staff treated her as if she was family, as well as treating her blood family as family. My Mother really loved living here. She was a long term patient. I want to say thank you to all the staff at the Jefferson and the Washington units for the loving care my Mother received. The staff always took the time to answer all our questions and concerns. Drs, administrator, nurses, etc were always available for a conference call with both my brother and I, and we both live in different states. My brother living in Richmond so he spent every Sunday with my Mother at the Laurels. Some of the staff held her hand as well as my sister inlaw as she passed and they weeped.
