"My appt. touring the building was amazing, the rooms shown were newly remodeled. I was conveniently made aware of the pendant 5 minute call time response. Staff turned up in their uniforms and put their best attitudes and smiles on. Papers were signed and then the room that was shown to us was suddenly gone, given to someone else. My parents were forced (nothing available) to live in a ‘bedroom’ that barely fit two twin size beds…I should have left right away. Then, After seeing my dad’s continued decline (4months later) I find out that my dad’s main medication was never given to him (I checked his med drawer and was told if it’s not there then it never was there) my dad was now dependent on his walker. I had asked repeatedly if he was receiving it (3X a day) and they said yes he was. He was not. "My mother is very happy here & has made many new friends. My problem is with her balcony door. For the 1st 6 months she lived here the lock was stuck & she couldn’t access her balcony. Finally the door company came out & did a hack job to open the door, then it wouldn’t lock once it closed. Because of that the door blew open more than once & eventually broke the springs preventing the door from closing. It now has to be tied shut with a rope. "Our 99-year-old mother is a resident of Addington Place of Clarkston. She told us that since she can no longer live at home, this is the next best place to live. The caring staff at Addington place take excellent care of her and the other residents. Although she is currently the oldest resident, everyone we meet there seems happy. Our mother likes the fact that she can have her own furniture in her room, and she thinks the food is delicious. On the rare occasion when she doesn’t like what is on the menu, she has several extra choices. We chose Addington Place because we were impressed with the wide range of activities available for residents. There are age-appropriate exercise activities, craft activities, movies, cooking demonstrations, weekly happy hour, bingo, and frequent visiting entertainers and presenters (including therapy dogs and other animals). "I wanted to do a shout out to Avalon. My step-mum has been in Assisted Living there for over 18 months and both she and are family are extremely happy. My step Mum has moderate dementia , but is still quite upbeat and independent. She was in another local and pricier AL that was purchased and went drastically down hill. Avalon was our solution. The food is good, she and her apartment are clean and the staff is friendly and responsive- especially since Bracha became the Director! The activity director Tony comes up with extra fun activities and field trip and does a fabulous job getting my Mum involved. Friday entertainment is another big hit!
