Shannondell at Valley Forge receives mixed reviews. Some patients and their families appreciate the facility's appearance and the dedication of certain staff members, particularly in independent living. However, many express concerns about the assisted living and rehabilitation services. Common issues include understaffing, overworked caregivers, and management prioritizing profit over patient care. Patients report feeling isolated, with limited activities and social interaction. There are complaints about inadequate medical care, such as missed medications, unaddressed health concerns, and poor communication. Hygiene and cleanliness are also problematic, with reports of unclean rooms and neglected personal care. The food quality is criticized, and internet service is unreliable. Some patients experience significant delays in receiving assistance, leading to discomfort and safety concerns. The facility's management is often described as unresponsive and dismissive of complaints. Despite the high cost of living at Shannondell, many feel the services provided do not justify the expense. Overall, while some staff members are praised for their efforts, the facility's systemic issues and management practices lead to dissatisfaction among many residents and their families.

My concern regarding our few months of stay is the easy access of housekeeping , maintenance and caregivers to all resident apartments having their own key to be able to access in All the apartments especially when you’re not around .My main concern living here is the privacy noted and security since any one could just come in and out using the stairwell. I wish they also have a lock ( they must have done it before) or use a card pass to enter the small gate or the door opening near the security terminal.

October 2023

Shannondell at Valley Forge was our dream retirement community, but it has transformed dramatically since we moved in before the pandemic. Initially, it was an active 55+ community, with vibrant residents, outstanding restaurants, and elegant evenings where we'd dress up for dinner. Fast forward, and it's disheartening to witness the shift. Most residents now rely on scooters or walkers, and in the communal spaces one can find residents napping on furniture along with their caregivers, despite management's disapproval. The place is now reminiscent of a nursing home. The decline in the living environment has been disheartening. My advice to prospective residents is to thoroughly assess the current state of Shannondell, as it no longer embodies the vibrant, active community it advertises. Look closely and don't rely on what marketing tells you.

September 2023

Shannondell at Valley Forge is undoubtedly a well-regarded 55-and-up independent and assisted living community for seniors. While it largely lives up to its reputation as an attractive option for retirees, it is important to take a closer look at some of the aspects that may not align with the expected standards. On a positive note, Shannondell excels in accommodating residents' needs, both in terms of physical assistance and financial considerations. The management demonstrates a strong commitment to ensuring that each resident enjoys a comfortable and fulfilling retirement experience. This level of attentiveness is crucial for seniors looking for a caring and supportive environment. It's concerning to observe that Shannondell's management and staff seem to struggle with accepting criticism from residents. Constructive feedback is a vital component of maintaining a high-quality living community, and residents should feel comfortable sharing their concerns without fear of retaliation

History Presby’s Inspired Life grew out of a response by members of the Presbytery of Philadelphia to provide quality housing and long-term care for older adults in the greater Philadelphia region. In 1955, the community that would later be known as Rosemont was opened to offer housing for 14 older adults who needed to be relocated after their previous residence closed. That community was the first of what is now Presby’s Inspired Life, and that initial act of charity spawned a ministry that continues to enrich an increasing number of lives. Nurturing the body, mind and spirit is our priority throughout our Life Plan communities, where we offer independent living, personal care, skilled nursing care, short- and long-term rehabilitative care and memory support programs. Our broad range of cultural, educational, spiritual and dining programs create limitless opportunities for residents to stay active and engaged while enjoying the peace of mind that comes from knowing that additional care is available if needed. Our communities are among the most respected in the Philadelphia region. In our Affordable Housing ministry, our more than 30-year partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development—as well as our long-term affiliation with the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency—has created opportunities for residents to live an enhanced quality of life that they may otherwise not have known in safe, affordable and beautiful apartment homes. What’s more is that our reputation for excellence in sponsorship, development and management remains the catalyst for other affordable housing developers to seek our expertise in managing their sites, resulting in several new referrals each year. In all of its roles, Presby’s Inspired Life’s values-based commitment to our residents remains constant and primary. Our goal is to create environments that bring engagement and possibility to the lives of all those we serve.…

The Quadrangle

From $3,571/mo

9.9
3300 Darby Road, Haverford, PA, 19041
Assisted Living · Memory Care · Independent Living · Nursing Home · Continuing Care Retirement Community

We’re welcoming brighter days as our residents have the chance to enjoy group activities, communal dining, social events, and indoor visitation, subject to community operating status. A Haverford, Pennsylvania, continuing care retirement community (CCRC), providing independent living for active older adults, as well as personal care, memory care, and rehabilitation services Founded by retired Quaker professors in 1986, our community offers a distinctly inclusive, intellectual, and highly engaged environment Offering a variety of 1-2 bedroom apartment styles, along with eight residential buildings, skilled nursing and personal care facilities, and numerous residential cottages Featuring 85 resident-run committees, a vibrant activities program that includes an emphasis on fitness and personal training, and a multitude of art, literature, science/health, and cultural opportunities with a focus on the mind, body, and spirit. The Quadrangle, which is located on 74 wooded acres, just nine miles from Philadelphia’s City Hall, was founded by a group of Haverford College professors who were looking for a new approach to retirement homes. By creating a place where older adults could live securely, share their interests, and enjoy one another’s company, they felt they had created a new kind of community that had the feel of a college campus, with an emphasis on creativity and continued learning. When you enter our lovely community, the first thing you will notice is the beautiful art that lines the walls throughout the hallways. Many of this is resident-created art, and you will sense immediately that there is a focus on fine arts, pottery, and sculpting (much of this work is created in our popular art studio). Our residents are highly involved in the curation of our committees and programming and have even adopted "the life of the mind" as our community's motto, as so much at The Quadrangle revolves around providing enriching, fulfilling experiences. And, to ensure the community is consistently meeting residents' needs, we are proud to boast an active and involved Resident's Association with a ten member council and four officers who meet with the resident body monthly to consider community needs and concerns—allowing ample opportunity for involvement in the life and governance of The Quadrangle. The library, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is at the heart of our building, and we are proud to offer more than 10,000 volumes. Our resident committee purchases 30-50 new books each month and we offer two bookcases of work written by our resident authors. We offer an excellent dining program, and our in-house chef offers a fully inclusive meal program. Our property features a 6-hole executive golf course and putting green, bocce, tennis courts, croquet, community garden plots, and a greenhouse. The Quadrangle is truly like no other senior living community, and we would be honored to welcome you and your family for a tour of our buildings and our grounds. You will notice immediately that our residents are friendly and approachable, and—if you wish—you will have the opportunity to meet many of the people who make our community so vibrant and talk to them about life at The Quadrangle. Contact us about booking a tour. We look forward to speaking with you! Read about our Reopening Guidelines in Accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health here.…
