"I want to live there! The staff are all warm and friendly. I can tell it is a great community by how the residents are smiling! Clean beautiful private grounds. Not on a busy street. Renovated this year, unlike others that tell you "oh, we are going to renovate". They have great trips like going to York Beach Maine and eating there at a restaurant! Easy to walk around. Stores near by all with in walking distance plaza, wine and liquor store, CVS, many restaurants for change of pace! They don't nickel and dime you like some others. "I echo the above descriptions regarding the memory care unit. Inadequate staffing levels, environment, and senior management communication extremely poor. When my LO first entered memory care, he was very independent and therefore ignored. As his disease progressed, the facility did not communicate with the family to work on strategies. He was ignored. When brought to their attention, the rates would increase, citing more care required additional time to complete tasks. There was no additional care. This facility does not possess the expertise for advanced memory needs. A money grab. Take the time to research stand alone memory care facilities. "I am a resident of Kennedy Meadows in North Billerica, MA. These are my observations: Although meals are advertised as home made from scratch with fresh ingredients, that is not the case. Canned vegetables and fruits. mashed potatoes from dried potato, plain white bread for sandwiches, and pre-prepared items are the norm. Food is most often cool when served; residents comment when meals are warm. Housekeeping is less than adequate; weekly "cleanings" consist of little more than a swipe here and there. Floors aren't mopped, upholstered furniture isn't vacuumed, all the ways one would expect an apartment to be kept properly are missing. Staff shortages lead to long wait times at table for meals and substandard housekeeping. Transportation, an advertised amenity, is available at limited times and only to those who can climb into a van - no wheelchair lift. Residents are not welcome to make suggestions for improvement. As a example, there is no AED (defibrillation device) on site. When residents requested that medical device be made available, we were told it isn't required by law and Hawthorn has decided not to provide one. Towels, bed linens, and toilet paper are substandard - rough. On a positive note, surroundings are very nicely decorated, halls and doorways are wide, outside walkways are pleasant, and residents are friendly. I would not recommend." - Betty… Read more

"I started looking for senior living places and decided to look at the Residence at Bedford (MA) for Independent living. Although it's not yet fully built, my experience so far has been nothing less than spectacular. The executive director is very pleasant and listens carefully to everything you say. The sales manager is also very caring and listens to everything that you have to offer. She went above and beyond to accommodate all my requests and the experience I had with them was far superior to any that I had at other facilities. They answered all my questions and I never felt rushed out the door like at other places I visited. As far as the building, it is in a lovely setting overlooking the Minuteman trail with plenty of parking. It looks like a very large home, instead of anything industrial. I would encourage anyone who is looking for a wonderful place to stay to consider taking some time to explore the Residence at Bedford.
