"The staff is amazing, the management is not. They are completely out of touch with what is going happening on the floor. The management is comfortable in their jobs and do not have to do the hard stuff, especially when they are sitting in their office or behind the desk all day. My mother transitioned into her final days Thanksgiving week. My sister and I live far away and were calling and calling and no answered or call back to us from Bluffview for 24 hours. They are not supposed to have aggressive patients and in that final week they moved an aggressive man (So aggressive the police had to come at one point) next to my mom's room who we discovered kept going into her room. At one point when I went to take a Facetime to update a family member about my mom, this man approached me from behind and hit me and was yelling at me. "My mother has been residing at Hearten House II since March of this year. After researching and visiting many facilities, we chose Hearten House in La Crosse, WI. We liked its location, ease of parking, and the intimacy of only having 12 residents at a time. We made several impromptu visits and always found the gathered in the living room and kitchen area. People weren't sitting in wheelchairs in the hallway like some other places we visited. They were active and socializing. Staff members have been amazing. Most have been there for many years. That is unusual in this type of facility. They communicate day to day needs with family and help the resident to be comfortable. As you may know, the process of transitioning a family member into memory care is difficult and it tugs at the heart strings.
