"So we moved my mother in law from the Villages, and we were on a waiting list to put her into Cypress. So in the meantime, we put her in the Cove at Marsh Landing. There is a very clear guarantee on the website that if you don't like it for any reason, they will refund your rent. Which is comforting. She moved in on April 7; she immediately did not like it, and she moved out April 14 (miraculously a spot opened at Cypress). The conditions there were as close as I can imagine to prison. The food was inedible. The people were... mentally challenged. It was not a nice place. We followed all of the proper protocols for her exit. But lo and behold.. they refused to refund anything. They gave us all kinds of runaround ("We're reviewing" "Let me speak the someone on this", etc...) and eventually were told to "refer to the contract"... which requires 30 day notice. "Grand Living at Tamaya presents itself as a luxury assisted living community offering first-class care. Unfortunately, my on-site, daily experience tells a very different story. While the setting is undeniably beautiful and the food is good, those positives do not come close to compensating for the serious deficiencies in resident care and oversight, especially given that this is one of the most expensive communities in the area and has received a failing grade. The team is personable and nice. However, there are major staffing issues. Call buttons frequently go unanswered for extended periods, sometimes more than an hour. There is frequently one caregiver assigned to care for residents on two floors. I estimate that to be about forty-five residents. Resident care lacks consistency, coordination, and accountability. "Please don't place a loved one here! The building is infested with roaches. They are in the walls and have been seen coming out of the electrical outlets. The food is terrible and loaded with fillers. The chicken comes out of a can and doesn't look like chicken. Kitchen and dining staff were honest enough to let me know. The available daily salad is simply iceberg lettuce with very few additional vegetables added to it. This place is always short staffed, and it takes an hour approximately to start being served in the dining room. Assisted living and independent care residents are co-mingled in the dining room, and having a resident with a hanging catheter is not an unusual sight to see. Next comes the lack of cleaning at Camellia. Residents pay for their cleaning as part of the fee. If the rooms don't meet their cleaning specifications, the staff is excused from doing cleaning that week. "Silver Treasures has a compassionate, knowledgeable director Estrella who oversees the small quaint assisted living home. Estrella sees that her residents have quality care 24 hours a day. Three meals a day are served in the centraly located dinning over looking the large screened in back porch. Snacks are available for in-between meals. The individual apartments have a living room area ( where you can have your TV and small kitchenette area where you can place a microwave and mini refrigerator. (small sink) Bathrooms are located off the bedrooms. Assistance is just a button push away for all residents. The Front porch with the row of rocking chair where you can watch the fountain and local birds fly and rest in the pond. There is a circular side walk where you stroll and enjoy the outdoors. The grounds as well as the individual apartments are always meticulously clean. Rehab can all so be done onsite as well as Doctor visits. I have been to assisted living homes from Nocatee, Ponte Vedra, Jacksonville and Silver Treasures at Ponte Vedra was the best.
