What families are saying

We’ve gathered and summarized real family reviews from across the internet for you. Contact a CareScout representative for details.

Reviews of Allegro St. Augustine are largely positive, especially regarding the community’s appearance, cleanliness, staff friendliness, and range of activities. Residents and families frequently describe the building as bright, attractive, welcoming, and well maintained, with spacious or comfortable apartments, pleasant dining areas, courtyards, fitness facilities, salons, libraries, transportation, entertainment, exercise classes, and social events. Many reviewers praise the leadership team—particularly Julie and Toni—for being knowledgeable, supportive, and helpful during the transition to senior living. Staff are often described as kind, caring, cheerful, and attentive, with several families saying employees helped their loved ones feel at home and provided dignified care. Food is generally considered good or excellent, with menu choices, alternatives, and café access mentioned positively. However, some reviews identify important concerns. Multiple people feel the community is expensive or overpriced. Staffing shortages, particularly in dining and maintenance, have caused slower service and delays repairing items such as electrical outlets. A few reviewers believe resident needs can be secondary to budgetary or management priorities and report that leadership was not always accessible. One former resident described declining conditions, reduced kitchen and dining hours, employee turnover, and inadequate permanent staffing. Others felt portions of the community were aging and needed refurbishment, although improvements had been made. Allegro primarily suits independent living and assisted living; it does not offer memory care, and residents may be able to leave freely, which concerned some families. Overall, reviewers generally view Allegro as a beautiful, active, friendly, and caring community, while advising prospective residents to carefully evaluate pricing, staffing, maintenance responsiveness, management practices, and future care needs.

Portola Gardens Assisted Living in San Francisco has been the biggest gift to our sister and family. After a near death accident which left our sister with a permanent brain injury, we searched for the perfect facility that would meet her physical, mental and social needs. Our family is beyond grateful for the exquisite care our sister is receiving from the nursing staff, the activities coordinators and especially Lynda Connelly who has been a pillar of support and professionalism alongside the rest of the Executive & Business Staff. As Powers of Attorney for our sister, we are thankful for the loving, mindful, efficient and consistent care our sister receives and love the amount of time Portola Gardens puts into the wellbeing and socializing of their Residents with quality activities and homemade healthy food! If you need to locate your loved one into a facility, Portola Gardens and its beautiful grounds is a beautiful place! Thank you!
