"Belmont Village of San Jose is in a great location. Santana Row is (literally) next door. It's a short (a couple of blocks) walk to the Valley Fair mall. And the Winchester Mystery House is across the street. The food is really good, too. But that's not why I’m there. It’s the people. The “pals” go out of their way volunteering to help you do whatever you’re trying to do. They have a great nursing staff. The dining room staff too — very accommodating. I’ve only needed maintenance a couple of times, but each time they’ve jumped on the problem and fixed it on the first try. And last — but not least — management is very accessible. "My mom lived at Oakmont San Jose for five years. After being at three other memory care facilities (Belmont Village Sunnyvale and Atria Foster City), OSJ was the perfect solution, and where she lived out her final days. My mom was accustomed to high-end hotels and a glamorous life, with excellent customer service and care. We found OSJ to be the perfect fit for high-cognitive seniors. It was so wonderful to visit her as she was engaged in activities or sitting on the beautiful patio having lunch. The current head nurse (Paula) and memory care director (Sherry) are the best in the biz and were the only team to regularly keep in touch with me as her only child and POA. While the leadership changed many times over the course of her residency, the care staff was consistent, and my mom felt safe in her lovely private room. "My sister and I went to several Memory facilities in advance of Dad impending move. We chose this community because it was in his home town, 7 miles from me, had a memory unit of 3 floors and reminiscence unit on the fourth floor. His first two years he became part of the community by interacting with the wonderful staff. When his Alzheimers progressed he moved to the remembrance floor where he felt he was part of the staff again. He loved to tease the staff, sing and get into mischief. Throughout his stay we worked with their Wellness staff and his doctors to stay on top of the Alzheimers progression. "You might think why I am giving One Star. Let me explain to you, why? One star for initial impression from the front desk customer care team. We went to their open house on May 27, 2026. There were 5 Ladies standing there checking people in, however Lady name Ellen mostly spoke and others were looking funny towards us. She was refusing to acknowledge that we called to make the reservation. She said it is for independent living when the flyer said assisted living, memory care as well. They assume our mom needs assisted living and she was pushing for independent living ONLY. The bottom line is they weren't inviting at all and actually kind of hinting us to leave after we spent money to drive there. As you can see no one EVER invited or willing to visit their origin countries and that kind of proves why they were so uninviting.
