"The Oaks at Tucker looks good, but it is consistently short on staff, and they do not follow their own safety protocols. Twice in the 1 1/2year my month lived there she went an entire month without receiving her medication and both times ended up having to go to the emergency room. They never seemed to have an activity director, so there were few if any activities. In the time my mother lived there my sister had to help my mother shower, talk to staff about basic cleaning like emptying the trash, and was there often to make sure my mother got what she needed. The facility looks good from the outside the rooms are nice size, they just don't seem to have the ability to hire and retain enough staff. "When visiting the facility, I was told by a gentleman in the parking lot who said his mom lives there that the food was one of the best things about the place -- and that's one of the main reasons I chose it. Unfortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth. The food is absolutely terrible. I wouldn't serve some of it to anyone. The kitchen can't keep a cook, and there is constant turnover. The meals look and taste like something thrown together with no care at all. I wish that I could post pictures so you can see for yourself what they are calling "lasagna" on the menu. It looks like it is missing marinara sauce and was filled with something that could pass for cat pate. You can't even tell that it is what it is. My mom sends me photos of her meals all the time, and it's heartbreaking. I've resorted to taking her grocery shopping so she can have something decent to eat. "Nice improvement but needs a little more Brickmont of Acworth could be such a wonderful place if they paid closer attention to who they hire and how their leadership treats the staff. The caregivers in this community are some of the most caring and loyal people I’ve ever met they truly love their residents. The problem is the head nurse. She’s intimidating, disrespectful, and makes employees feel small and afraid to speak up. That kind of energy doesn’t belong in a place meant to care for others. The good news is that memory care has come a long way. The new Activity Director is doing an amazing job bringing life, joy, and structure back into the building. "They have been fabulous. They've been taking care of my mom for 3 years, and I can't recommend them enough. They really do care, don't seem to have much turnover, staff know me and all the residents by name, and they do a lot of community events throughout the year. "My mother is currently residing in the memory care facility. The facility was sold a few months ago and I am extremely concerned about the level of care. The top 4 reasons that I placed her there - 1 . there were real memory care activities to allow residence to thrive as the disease progresses 2. Longevity of staff, most had been there more than 5 years or more, had a real passion for caring for the senior population and communicated with families about loved ones frequently. 3. Great food that felt like dining in a nice restaurant with meal choices 4. Cleanliness and decore. Not sterile feels like home and visitation warm and welcoming. Latest events is that new company has let go all of the very capable long-term staff because they don’t want to pay them. Food and cleanliness has declined and no activities such as jazz on Fridays to engage residents. I am extremely concerned and will start the journey to find the best care for my mother. "The Oaks at Snellville was a regrettable choice. Response times are nothing like promised. Consistently one to one and a half hours. Medication management is poorly safeguarded! Understaffed and no manager or supervisor at night or weekends. Foods is unacceptable. Portions are inadequate. Nothing is fresh and alternatives are rarely available. Transportation to appointments is very limited. Outings are limited and poorly executed. Rooms are not fully wheelchair functional. No room to roll up under the sink in the bathroom.
